The purpose of NIST SP 800-171 is to secure and protect the confidentiality of information, specifically Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). There is no “finish line” to NIST SP 800-171 or CMMC. Once every control and requirement is placed, a NIST SP 800-171 compliance program must be managed.
